Tritium watches: glow that never needs charging
Most glow paint fades by midnight. Tritium is still glowing at 4 AM, and will be for years. Here's how it works, and one watch that shows it off.

Tiny glass tubes that light themselves
A tritium watch has tiny sealed glass tubes on its hands and markers. Each holds a little tritium gas, a radioactive form of hydrogen, and is coated inside with phosphor. As the tritium decays it gives off weak electrons that hit the phosphor and make it glow. No sunlight, no charging, no button.
Regular glow paint soaks up light and lets it out slowly: bright at first, dim a few hours later. Tritium is less dazzling up front but stays steady all night, every night.
"T100" is the Swiss rating for the stronger of the two common tube grades (T25 is the other). The glow slowly dims as the tritium decays, losing about half its brightness roughly every 12 years.
Is it safe? The electrons can't even get through the glass tube, let alone the case and crystal. Military, divers and police have worn tritium watches for decades.

Isobrite ISO3007 Enforcer II Limited Edition
The Isobrite ISO3007 Enforcer II Limited Edition, from the ArmourLite collection, is a Swiss-made tactical watch built around self-powered T100 tritium. Its markers and hands glow constantly for years without any outside light.
The standout is the dial: a glow-in-the-dark skull with two orange tritium eyes. The tritium stays lit all night, while the skull glows bright after time in the light, so you get both kinds of glow on one face.
The rest is all business: a carbon-fiber reinforced polycarbonate case, sapphire crystal, a ratcheting bezel with its own tritium tubes, 200 m water resistance, and a Swiss quartz movement with a cell rated for about 10 years. At 3 ounces it's light for a 47 mm watch.
